Sports Participation Transcends Social Class Essay

1. List at least three specific ways that sport participation transcends social class. No matter what is your social class, everyone can participate in sports. Social class can determine which sports you play. The upper class are most likely to attend sporting events, and when the lower class attend sporting events, it is usually a boxing or wrestling match. Additionally, better-educated people are more likely to attend sports events, which relates to the higher educated you are, the more money you will make, and it will be able to spend on leisure. Furthermore, speaking from experience no matter what is your social class we all cheer for the same team whether it is in the nosebleed seats or courtside or even at home. 2. The various aspects of research methodology that are involved in the research process are as follows (Flick, 2015). Research Design Research Approach Research Philosophy Research Design Research design provides a suitable path to collect the requisite data set or information needed for the research work. The researcher will use the exploratory research design for the current research work. The main objective for selecting this research design is the nature of the research topic, since the researcher wants to collect data by investigating the various issues and factors related to the business ethical practice in detailed manner and the exploratory research design provide the data by the same manner (Taylor, Bogdan and DeVault, 2015). To understand the research topic and their issues in detailed manner Creation of central research questions based on the research topic Literature review will also be conducted based on the previous research work so that the researcher can distinguish the outcomes of previous research work with the current research work Selection of suitable research methodologies based on the requirement of the research topic and related problem Selection of methods and techniques for data collection and analysis Processing of the collected information and data and presenting the respective findings in terms of tables, graphs and charts in MS excel Final step is to conclude the imperative findings, factors on the basis of the outcomes of the research work and preparation of the final report This report and outcomes will prepare a ground for further research work. Data Collection and Analysis Data Collection In order to collect the primary data the researcher will select the survey method and also unstructured interview for certain sample.. The targeted sample population is 10 managers and 5 senior managers along with the 30 employees and 5 retired managers of the selected frim. Thus, the sample size will be 50. The sample population would have experience and strong perception related to the research questions. The survey will be conducted by offline mode based on the questionnaire formed by the researcher in regards to the research questions and research issues. Interview would be conducted for 10 employees and would be of unstructured nature so as to bring out exhaustive information with regards to popular perception. Secondary data from the journals and article will be obtained by the researcher. In this particular emphasis would be laid on various cases where the firms did not follow the ethical practices. Analysis of Data The research will have several responses from the primary data. There would be some common responses and some different response. Thus, the number of variables will be obtained by the researcher based on the type of response received. The mixed procedure (combination of qualitative and quantitative) will be selected by the researcher to analyse the data. The quantitative technique will examine the outcomes of the conducted survey (Hillier, 2006). The various factors and findings of the literature review or secondary data along with the findings in the interview will be analysed in detailed manner by qualitative techniques of data analysis. The Attack on Pearl Harbor Essay Example For Students

The Attack on Pearl Harbor Essay During the course of World War II, Japan demonstrated its power by conquering nearby countries and soon expanded into Southeast Asia. They had done everything right, but they made a mistake in the Pacific. That was attacking Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941. After the attack, the Japanese force began to fall in power. The Attack on Pearl Harbor Essay by the Japanese was successful, but was one of the biggest mistakes Japan made during the World War II. The attack on Pearl Harbor was calculated to the extreme, every single aspect was considered. From the planes to be used to what type of torpedoes were to be used. Winston Churchill described the attack as an irrational act, with prudence or even with sanity (Schroeder 200). But the truth was that Japan was realistic about their position, the attack was an act of desperation and to be in a better position in Asia (201). The reason for the attack was to keep the United States navy out of the western pacific for about six month, until the first stage of their operation had been completed, which was to conquer all of Southeast Asia (Prange 18). The plan for Pearl Harbor was for fighters to destroy parked planes at Wheeler Field and Kaneohe. We will write a custom essay on The Attack on Pearl Harbor specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now The high level bombers to head for Hickam Field, and for torpedo planes and dive bombers to destroy the battleships in the harbor (Morison 56). In order to achieve their goal of destroying the battleships, it was necessary to devise an effective weapon for sinking them in shallow water. And it was necessary for the attacking carriers and their escorts to approach within two hundred miles of Hawaii without being discovered (Spector 81). The attack was carefully planned and carried into execution. By August, the plan was sufficiently advanced to warrant a start of actual preparation. The plan consisted of six carriers and an air strike force, screened by a squadron of nine destroyers (Buchanan 71). Training went into effect for the operation after final plans were made (Wohlstetter 350). Admiral Yamamoto firmly opposed to war with the United States because he thought the defeat was inevitable, but soon he was persuade to accept the plan (360). A successful operation but a fatal one was about to begin. The attack itself was very successful, taking out most of the battleships in the harbor. The strike force reached its predetermined launching position in the morning of December 7th, and the strike began (Buchanan 72). Under vice admiral Chuichi Nagumo, the strike force was a strong and well organized group. Having two things in mind and that was wiping out the major part of the pacific fleet and to destroy all military aircraft (Morison 46). A total of 81 Japanese fighters, dive bombers, and torpedo planes were used in the operation. It was the most modern, highly trained and deadly naval force in the world (Spector 1). As the planes approached the harbor, an officer on duty detected them on the radar. He reported immediately to the office, but the person who received the report was inexperienced in the use of radar and confused the aircraft with allied planes which were expected to arrive that morning (Buchanan 73). So the Japanese planes were able to get to their target without any resistance. What made things even worst was that it was a Sunday morning and most of the officers were still in bed, and many senior officers and chief petty officers were on weekend leave (Morison 60). The first phase of the attack consisted of time torpedo and dive bombers attacking the battleships which were lined up in rows. The second phase was a series of high level bombing attacks on the harbor taking out military facilities and battleships that still looked undamaged (Buchanan 74). What made the attack seemed so easy was that the battleships were lined up in rows and the pilots knew exactly where they were, completely unprotected from torpedo attacks (Morison 59). After a series of attack, Pearl harbor was left in ruin by the Japanese air force. The Japanese were able to wipe out most of the Pacific Fleet and delay the United States .

You are at the helm of your own ship and you, and only you, get to choose the direction to take.We know that, if we write and publish lots of books, potentially our library of books grows and this generates strong passive income. But relying on book sales only is a lot of work, and it is mo re work if you are selling on just one platform, Amazon.Check out how our very own coach Lise Cartwright has built her passive income stream with books (and how she can teach you to do the same when you become a student): As an authorpreneur, a self-publisher who writes and publishes their own books, you want to always be thinking creatively how to expand your income streams.Let’s take a look at the list below for book assets.Book seriesBoxsetsAudiobooksPaperbacksHardcover booksLarge print booksMaking a Living Writing with the â€Å"Multiple Book ModelLet’s be honest. Making money from one book can be very difficult. Most authors who earn a living as a successful writer have several, if not many, books in the pipeline. These authors not only publish consistently but, are focused on delivering a series of books to build a valuable fan base. The people buying your book series, once they are hooked into your series, crave more. This makes it a no-brainer for scaling up you r author platform with every new book launch. The more books you publish, the more income you can potentially earn and add more subscribers to your list. For example, check out this popular book series:S.J. Scott’s Habit Book Series or Mindfulness Book Series with Barrie Davenport.Mark Dawson’s John Milton Series. He is now up to book #12 and this popular series has sold a million copies.Nick Webb’s popular sci-fi series Legacy FleetHal Elrod’s The Miracle Morning Series booksWe know that publishing consistently brings in more money and builds your platform over the long-term. But why does this model work?Your readers love new material, and so does Amazon. When your platform is active with new book releases, sales and reviews coming in consistently, the algorithm is â€Å"switched on† to help you sell more by pushing your books into the higher-traffic channels. As your platform continues to scale up, your platform grows. It might be slow at first, and you feel like you’re doing a lot of writing without any gains, butthat is the way it is when you begin to build. Most fiction authors start to see a return on investment after the 4th or 5th book in a series. For nonfiction, this could happen sooner but, I certainly experienced a big shift after launching my 5th book Relaunch Your Life.Another reason multiple books work is, new readers discovering you are almost always going to buy your other books if they like what they read. If that same reader likes your books, maybe he or she wants the course you are offering as well at 20% off.Expanding Book Formats to Make More Money from Your BooksDont just settle for publishing in a single format. Were covering the several different types of book formats you can publish in that will increase your income from writing over time.#1 BoxsetsA boxset is a series of books bundled together allowing readers to purchase the series at a reduced cost per book. This is a great product to create as soon as you have 3 or more books in a series.Check out these boxsets by popular authors:Mortality Bites Boxed Set (Books 1 6): An Urban Fantasy Epic Adventure by Ramy VanceNoah Wolf Box Set #1: Books 1-4 by David Archer#2 AudiobooksThe popularity of audiobooks is on the rise. With less people reading and tuning into digital products while on the run, audiobooks is an income stream you can’t afford to leave on the table. You can record the audiobook yourself or hire a professional. Once recorded, upload to ACX, Audible and expand into other channels for wide distribution through Find Away Voices.#3 PaperbacksWe live in the digital age but, paperbacks are still massively popular. In fact, 30% of my author revenue still comes through paperback sales. With the power of Print-on-Demand, readers can buy our books through Amazon or IngramSpark, and these sites do all the heavy lifting. No inventory.#4 Hardcover BooksYou can use IngramSparks’ powerful distribution network to create stunning hardcover versions of your book. Why not? It’s another income stream that, once set up, sells itself. You have to pay a fee of $49.00 per title and you’ll need an ISBN for each version of the book.#5 Large Print BooksDid you know you can offer readers another version of your book in large print form? This isn’t a huge market but, depending on the age range of your readers, a great option for children’s books or readers with impaired vision.Ideally, you are not just selling a book. You are converting a browser into a lifelong customer. That is the real power of building a brand and an author platform.Right now, take a few minutes to map out a rough plan for your book platform. How many books will you write this year? Is this a series of books or stand-alones? How far apart will you publish your books? Could you compliment your book by introducing a course to go with it?Creating Scalable Income StreamsSuccessful 6-figure authorpreneur J oanna Penn accounts for her success to multiple income streams she calls â€Å"scalable assets† that bring in thousands of dollars every month.Check out how she does it in the video below: In essence, a scalable asset can be anything you create once and continue to sell over and over again. For example, you put in over a hundred hours to write a book. Now, if you were being paid $30 an hour to write, that would be $3000 to you after the work is done. But let’s say your book sells at $4.99 as an ebook, and $12.99 for the paperback. You consistently sell 30 eBooks a day at a 70% royalty rate, because your book is priced between $2.99 and $9.99. The paperback priced at $12.99 earns a fixed 60% royalty rate through KDP. That is roughly 182.00 per day for ebook and paperback sales. Now, this continues for 30 days and that is: 185.0030=$5,550. Now, I calculated this just for one book if it does really well. Imagine where you could be with five, ten or twenty books each generati ng their own passive income streams? How about if you had audiobooks as well? What about foreign rights sales? A course that goes with the book?Get the idea now.Yes, the dream is very real. It is right in front of you, if you want it!How can you scale up your author business right now?How many assets can you create over the next six months?Build an email list of raving fansIf you haven’t started building an email list yet, you need one. Without a fan base to market your books to in the initial book launch phase, you are left to the mercy of the Amazon algorithm. Your list is the horde of fans waiting for your book release. When you get ready to launch your next bestseller, these are the people who will help you to make it a smashing success.A successful book launch is critical. When you Sell More Books, this is a trigger to Amazon that your book is popular and in demand. Amazon steps in to push your book into the also-bought section, the area that recommends popular items to cu stomers when browsing. How do you create an email list? You can start with offering a free gift inside your book. This is a lead magnet that could be a:ChecklistAction GuideAudiobookFree ReportVideo SeriesYour readers give you their email by signing up (what Seth Godin calls â€Å"Permission marketing) and they get added to your newsletter list. This is one of the most effective ways to sell books and continue to add to your subscribers list.Your list is happy because they get to join you on the journey as you keep them in the loop on every writing project. Then, when close to launching, you can invite them to your launch team and offer the book for free to a segment of your list. This helps to secure book reviews during launch week. In turn, your book sales flow in and your book has a stronger chance of sticking in the marketplace after the initial 30-days is over.Remember: From the day your book is published, Amazon puts all books in â€Å"new releases† category. It is critica l you maximize paid downloads and reviews during this 30-day period for the long-term success of the book.Ready to Become a Full-Time Author?Okay, you don’t have to be full time to still make money selling your books. But to make money at this, there are three things you should do consistently. Here is a list of three action items that you, as a real author, can take to scale up your platform, sell more books, and earn good money while you sleep.#1 Form a writing habitI write every morning from 5:30- 7:00. This is a consistent schedule I have kept for the past 3 years and during this time I wrote and launched 12+ books.Developing a writing habit is crucial if you want to make a living writing. If you still have a day job (and most people do) you’ll need to find the time of day works best for you, establish your most productive writing time and make this a habit of creating content during this peak time.Once you’ve established your best time for writing, write co nsistently for five days a week. #2 Publish consistentlyIf you follow the steps above and write with consistency, you can publish frequently, too.Imagine where your (fiction or nonfiction) platform would be if you put out a book every 3-4 months. This is how you create scalable income. Do the work now and reap the rewards later.#3 Communicate with your fanbaseWe looked at the importance of an email list and why you need one. When you are getting ready to launch, you want to be able to shout it out to someone who is listening.Your team of dedicated email subscribers are ready to help you launch bestseller after bestseller. But, communicating with your list is critical in between book launches. At the very least, send out an email once every two weeks, and if you can, once a week. Provide tips, strategies, or an update on what you are working on.Keep your tribe in the loop!#4 Determine Your Level of SuccessYou have to work out the details of what your success means to you.How many i ncome streams can you build, and what are they? Will you focus on the wide distribution model, or stay exclusive with Amazon? This is different for every writer and depends on what you are comfortable with in terms of time and financial investment.Stay focused on the big picture and scale up gradually. With every new book, you are generating potential to earn more and gain wider recognition as an author. If you write one book and focus all your efforts on this, think of other income streams to tie in with your book and the kind of fan base you want to build. Will you offer coaching? Courses? Outsource your tech skills to help other authors? You are an author, and now is the best time to make a living as a writer.Take the First Step Toward Making a Living WritingChandler Bolt created a training focusing on exactly the steps above. In fact, hes built this very 8-figure business on the back of his 6 bestselling books. If anyone knows how to make a living (and then some) writing, its Chand ler.

Writing skills for nursing students, Nursing Standard - Emphasis

Writing skills for nursing students, Nursing Standard Writing skills for nursing students, Nursing Standard As the adage goes, anything worth having is worth fighting for. But it can be a rude awakening if youve signed onto a nursing degree course and now find your passion for helping people buried under a pile of essays and assignments. Theres no doubt that a degree is great preparation for the challenging career you have ahead of you. But turning complex scientific information into concise writing is not always easy. It can seem like a losing battle especially if you havent been shown how. The secret is to learn how to communicate your ideas and arguments clearly. This can boost your understanding of the clinical material, enabling you to put your people know-how into context. Here are five ways to lay the foundations for writing success. Clarify your main message Before you begin writing, its vital that you know what you really want to say. Answering the questions: What?, Where?, When?, How?, Why? and Who? can help you to organise your ideas. Focus on your reader Your reader is likely to be your university lecturer, who should already be very knowledgeable about the topics you write about. So focus on exactly what they need for each particular assignment. For instance, if your task is to evaluate a variety of health-promotion models, focus on what is most important about each model and write about that first. This will show that you are able to reach a clear conclusion from your research. You can then demonstrate your evaluation skills by expanding on each of your key messages. Keep it short and sweet A survey by Harvard professor D.H. Menzel showed that in technical papers, people find sentences difficult to understand when they are longer than 34 words. So make things easier for your reader by keeping your sentences between 15 and 20 words. One idea, one sentence Consider this sentence: Nurses play an important role in the delivery of healthcare yet some are concerned that they need more autonomy in their work. This actually contains two separate (but linked) ideas, so it would be more helpful to the reader to split the sentence up: Nurses play an important role in the delivery of healthcare. Yet some experts are concerned that they need more autonomy in their work. Splitting up your ideas in this way will give your writing clarity. Use the active voice Traditionally, academic writing uses the passive voice to appear objective and scientific. But the active voice adds movement to your writing and its still scientifically sound. So instead of writing Leadership styles have been investigated by Zane and Prestipino (2004), write Zane and Prestipino (2004) investigated leadership styles. Academic writing doesnt have to be stilted, wordy and difficult to decipher. Practise these techniques and your writing will demonstrate your passion for nursing. Next month, well look at the ins and outs of essay writing. Well also give you some top tips for breaking writers block. Robert Ashton is Chief Executive of Emphasis. Want to write better documents? Civil War Railroads Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Civil War Railroads - Research Paper Example To a greater scale, the Civil War marked the first and successful militarization by utilizing the railroads and resulted in a continental scale conflict. In addition, the Civil War contributed to the invention and use of conventional weaponry that included machine guns and artillery and to top up, railroad weapons1. This paper explores the role played by the Civil War Railroads. The impact of railroads on operations Railroads played a role in facilitating logistical support during the Civil war, for armies while on the other hand, they proved significant in advancing the economies of warring nations. In essence, railroads influenced operations during the Civil War by enhancing mobility of armies in terms of transporting troops and other supplies. Railroad technology improved the production of weapons since, it provided a means of transporting large loads, efficiently2. The strategy adopted by the Union arm entailed an effective logistical operations that would replenish supplies and a sophisticated means of transport that, enable a rapid shift of troops to critical locations. As a result, an extensive railroad system allowed the Union soldiers to transport more soldiers that was impossible without a railroad network. Compared to the Southern army, the Northern army received more supplies as a result of controlling over 30,000 miles of railroad in America. In other situations, locomotives served the purpose of reconnoiter and enhanced the process of gathering information related to the enemy troop disposition. In addition, the mobility of locomotives, provided an effective means as courier vehicles for commanders rushing intelligence information to their headquarters. The railroad provided a rapid communication service and played an important role in terms of gaining advantage against frequent raids on telegraph lines that characterized the Civil War3. The railroads further enabled locomotives to operate as rams where, troops used these locomotives to destroy en emy train and railroad facilities. The railroads also enabled troops to launch modified cars that were set on fire to destroy bridges used by opponents. On another note, freight trains during the Civil War, served the purpose to deceive the enemy by running a train back and forth within one location. This tricked scouts into giving false information about opponents reinforcing their positions while, the trick acted as a cover for troops leaving an area. The railroad further revolutionized warfare and operations as a result of the introduction of railroad monitors that transported a large contingent of infantrymen. The rail monitors, increased fire power and improved the troop’s capacity to combat the invading enemy. However, the railroads on the other hand, impacted negatively on operations as a result of fierce completion that existed among railroad owners. Further, the maintenance of the rail lines, and including the trains presented a hurdle to owners. As a result, the rai lroads begun to experience difficulties because of a lack of new parts to replace the worn out parts. This affected the speed of locomotive that dropped to almost 10miles an hour from averagely 25 miles an hour. Fuel too, became an issue and especially, for the southern locomotives that relied heavily on wood. The strategy by the Confederate government to conscript skilled railroad workers into military also impacted on
